The original villain – Shah Rukh

Untitled-13Fan star ke peeche bhaagta tha…ab star fan ke peeche bhaagega – The ominous-sounding threat delivered in an equally menacing manner is Shah Rukh Khan, who plays the fan and his star in the Yash Raj Film – ‘Fan’.
The trailer in addition to reminding Shah Rukh fans on how good he can be in negative roles also features action sequences that look so much like the James Bond movie stunts. Who cares! Especially when they are well – executed.
Coming back to the original anti-hero of Hindi films, the actor who debuted with ‘Deewana’ in 1992 and made successive hit films like ‘Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman’ (which was a rehashed version of Raj kapoor’s ‘Awara’ and the hero does have his bad side to him, however he realises his mistake and turns out be a good boy in the end) and some forget-worthy ones like “Maya Memsaab’, rose to fame with his ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Darr’.
The introvert of ‘Baazigar’ that eventually turns out to be a murderer, does evoke fear yet the audience sympathised with him, drooled over his romantic scenes with both Shilpa Shetty and ravishing Kajol. And, Shah Rukh-Kajol had set the screen on fire much ahead of their memorable “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’. Then there was ‘Darr where the promising young hero with his unconventional looks plays the obsessive lover boy…and his stammered version of ‘KKKKK…Kiran’ has remained etched forever in the memory of Hindi film audience.
What followed was ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi naa’, which is a film ahead of its times in its treatment – Here too the hero has grey shades and plays spoilsport in the love story of the girl he is in love with, but in the end all is fine as he realises his mistake.
There came the ‘Anjaam’ in 1994 with Madhuri Dixit in the lead. And he was in his ultimate bad-man form in the film as an obsessive lover and murderer. Shah Rukh was even awarded Filmfare Award as the best villain for the film. He was nominated for the same award for ‘Darr’.
After ‘Anjaam’ in order to not get typecast in similar kind of roles, Shah Rukh moved on to other genres and the rest is history.
‘Fan’ is set to release on April 15.Untitled-14
