Three blots on Parliamentary democracy

Lagadapati Rajagopal, Modugula Venugopal Reddy, CM Ramesh… the actual faces behind these names are long known to the Telangana public. The entire nation has seen them now. In the process, they have become big blots on Indian democracy. All parties, entire national media is shunning them for the criminal acts they have performed at the temple of Indian Democracy.

Zee News called Lagadapati “The Engineer turned pepper sprayer,” “Volatile since college days”; Financial Express said “He is not new to drama”; Business Today reminded several times he said that “will go to any extent to stall the Bill”; Economic Times quoted his friends saying that “he has no control over his emotions.”

Major TV channels too severely chided Lagadapati for his behavior. Barkha Dutt of NDTV termed his actions “a shame, deplorable, unfit to be a parliamentarian”; CNN IBN’s Rajdeep Sardesai vented out his anger in a live discussion  apart from releasing a personal statement against what he directly saw in the Parliament as he was present there. He asked Rajgopal for an unconditional, upfront apology without any excuses. But the strongest rebuke came from Times Now’s Arnab Goswamy who spared no words on his live show where Lagadapati and CM Ramesh were called to respond. Goswamy started by asking “… are u insane? Were u assaulted? Was your life under threat? You are a ruckus creating rowdy in Parliament, u should be thrown out from parliament, never to be allowed again… I thought you would apoligise to the nation through us, but you are defending your shameful act…should be accused of conspiracy… you should be locked up, should not be allowed outside… you said you would play kabaddi in parliament… this is my parliament, who do you think you are…?I am ashamed of you… this is not parliament to do as you like…”

Goswamy’s tirade went on and all Lagadapati could do was mumble the same words, “Can’t I speak? Don’t I have a right to answer… Pepper Spray is a legally approved instrument for personal defence against mobs!”

Even BBC carried a story on the incident calling it “unprecedented.”

MOst of the national media also recognized that several Andhra channels are carrying PAID advertisements hailing Lagadapati as “Andhra Bhagat Singh,” “Alluri Reborn”.

Look at telugu pride and united we flourish slogans of Seemandhra politicians! We now go down in history as ”Pepper spray perpetrators!” We can only pray that the security committee formed by the speaker of Lok Sabha will take firm and unrelenting action on these rowdy elements.
