The time of elections is the time for new friendships, or revival of old relations. After twelve years of facing away, Ram Vilas Paswan in Bihar has just patched up with BJP. Down South, DMK’s Karunanidhi has just called Narendra Modi his ”long time friend” and praised his “hard work”. Karunanidhi was some what prodded by ”Amma” Jayalalithaa’s ambitions to become the PM herself and to have Indian and World leaders pay obeisance to her. DMK’s grand old man saw a clear opportunity and wisdom in cosying upto BJP to continue his ministerial powers in Delhi.
AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal is also not too far in this game of timely friendships. After forming government with the support of Congress, later dissolving the same government calling his friends and foes one and the same, he is cosying up to Congress again. Speaking at Lucknow, UP Kejriwal had no qualms in bashing SP, BSP and BJP at the same time. But he could find only confidence in and good words about Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.
“The question is, can Mayawati constitute Lokpal to curb corruption or for that matter, Mulayam or BJP,” he sought to know. “The answer is that only Congress president Sonia Gandhi can do so. Her direction to the Congress-led UPA government can ensure a strong Jan Lokpal, which can put all corrupt politicians behind bars, be it those belonging to BSP, SP, BJP or Congress,” he said.
After quashing his own government over Lok Pal, this piece of praise from Kejriwal clearly shows timely friendships and enmity.
