Education Minister of Telangana G Jagadishwar Reddy announced that all the government schools in the state would get toilets and drinking water facilities by August next year. Replying to a question raised in the Legislative Council, Mr. Reddy said that out of the 28,982 government schools in Telangana, about 2,122 including 131 schools in urban areas have no toilet facilities while 4,693 schools lack drinking water availability.
1,520 toilets are being constructed by utilising funds from Sarva Shiksha Abhiayan, said the minister. Toilets and drinking water facilities in the schools are being arranged with the help of IT and pharma companies as part of corporate social responsibility, said Mr. Reddy.
Mr. Reddy also announced that the government is considering opening English medium schools in Thandas. He also pronounced to fill up vacant posts of office subordinates, sweepers and scavengers in government schools.
