Cracking the whip on the illegal encroachements over the sewerage lines, which were said to be the root cause of inundation of low lying colonies in the city, the civic body of Hyderabad- GHMC, has demolished over 200 buildings that were built over the sewage bed. Acting swiftly over the decade-long problem, Mr KT Rama Rao, minister for Urban Development has asked the entire officialdom to plunge into action. In all, 30 special teams under the leadership of Divisional Engineers working in various departments, have been formed and the demolition spree continued all through the day.
At several places, public who were occupying the buildings have protested and tried to block the demolition work, but officials took the help of police to control them.
In a specific direction, the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has directed the officials to act tough and asked them to rage to ground any building that come in the way of smooth flowing of nalas. He told them to spare none however big one might be. This has given the officials to go hammer and tongs and even the debris was also cleared instantaneously.
The TRS corporators were also instructed to help the demolition work in their areas.
