Uppalapu Srinivas a Mandolin Maestro Passes Away

Untitled-4Uppalapu Srinivas a well-known mandolin player died Friday at a private hospital. He was 45.

A close sources at Apollo hospital, where he was admitted following brief illness says that “Srinivas passed away due to liver-related problems this morning at 9.30″.

Srinivas was born on February 28, 1969 in Palakolu, Andhra Pradesh. He was a child prodigy. At the age of six he picked up his father Satyanarayana’s mandolin and started playing it.

At the age of 9 he made his first public performance at the Thyagaraja Aradhana Festival in Gudivada. After that he has performed in several music festivals, both nationally and internationally.

He has performed alongside several international artists such as John McLaughlin, Michael Brook, Nigel Kennedy and Trey Gunn.

Srinivas was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 1998. He also received the prestigious Sangeeta Ratna award.
