The United States of America praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying about his commitment to better relations with the neighbouring countries, pointing at the invitation sent to the swearing in ceremony of Modi.
The US Defence Secretary Chcuk Hagel said, “By inviting South Asian leaders to his inauguration, Prime Minister Modi signalled commitment for better relations with Pakistan and other neighbours”.
On May 26, Mr. Modi took as the PM of India in a swearing in ceremony in New Delhi, for which he has invited all the heads of the states of SAARC nations, including Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif.
He said that during dialogues with the Indian leadership, including Modi, the US has settled that the US has not abandoned Afghanistan and “remains committed to help the Afghan National Forces through the transition beyond 2016.”
Hagel said Afghanistan was India’s neighbour and it was India’s responsibility to establish peace in the region.
He said the US would also want to increase regional security cooperation with India along with counter-terrorism cooperation.
