Mentioning the long-term economic and environmental consequences, the Sivaramakrishna Committee has denied any chance of locating state capital of Andhra Pradesh in and around Vijayawada-Guntur.
The committee stated that other areas of the state will be affected if capital in Vijayawada-Guntur is located.
The committee reported, “There are no significant traits of land in Krishna and Guntur districts which are uncultivated or degraded forest lands. Only Mangalgiri and Gannavaram have small contiguous parcels of lands. It is learnt that 200 acres of land is made available for AIIMS. The land in Gannavaram comprises of only a few acres in Kondapavuluru and Vedurpavuluru which have been quarried extensively and required rehabilitation before use”.
Reportedly, the committee has suggested three zones, Vizag zone comprising VUDA areas from Srikakulam to Kakinada; Rayalaseema Arc with Kurnool and Anantapur; and Srikalahasti.
