The largest public sector enterprise in Andhra Pradesh state, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, also known as Visakhapatnam Steel Plant started to work on Sunday after a complete shut down for a week under the affect of cyclone ‘Hudhud’.
The hot metal started rolling out from blast furnace-3 while one of the four coke oven batteries were also successfully charged and restored.
The coke oven batteries have to be restored within 48 hours after they are shut, and the authorities were eagerly waiting for the batteries restoration. The batteries once down can be restored rarely. The remaining two furnaces in the plant will be fired on Tuesday.
It was estimated that the plant was losing Rs. 40-50 Crore daily due to shut down.
