‘Vivekavani’ 122 years ago

Swami-Vivekananda-at-Chicago-1893September 11, is a Red Letter Day for India as Swamy Vivekananda’s historic speech at the World Parliament of Religions in Chacago in 1893 was hair-raising at the heavy assemblage of heads of all religions. His opening words – brothers and sisters drew wide applause from the audience as they were impressed by the Hindu view of life 112 years ago. His message defined a niche and a special status for India and the world held Hindus in high esteem thereafter. His posters reading ‘ The Psychlonic Monk of India ‘ became popular in Chicago city. Quotes from his historic speech are worth quoting again. For the benefit of the pragmatic audience the Swamy quoted a sloka from Hindu scriptures and explained thus, “ Oh Lord Eshwar, just as all rivers ultimately culminate in the sea, different methods of worship followed daily by crores of Hindus reach You.”
