Avantha Group, owner of Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT) has approached the State Government seeking permission to permanently shut down the unit by January 21, 2015. This came as a rude shock to the Workers and Trade union leaders who were mediating with the TS Government to resolve the issue. On June 22 the Joint Labour Commissioner had rejected the BILT Managements decision of Layoff.
As per the report, about 705 permanent workers and 670 others are engaged by the company. It is also highlighted that the workers do not have any other source of livelihood. The workers had dedicated their service for the Company for last two decades. Considering this the workers union leader V Ramchander, wanted the government to take over and run the factory.
Making a strong note, CITU Warangal district secretary M Chukkaiah, stated, “It is sad that while the Government has been making statement on setting up industrial corridors in the State, the only major industry in Warangal district is set to disappear.
