Water harvesting costly

CB23_RAIN_WATER_1002020fWater woes. Yes water crisis is on the rise by the day particularly during the summers. The government is rather helpless as the ground water table has been going down day by day with the increase in bore-wells under the limits of Greater Hyderabad. Bores employed should reach a depth of over 100 feet. The best possible solution offered was water harvesting in order to lift the ground water table, according to experts. It was made mandatory for apartments to create the water harvesting devices. That also fell on deaf ears.

Out of over 22 lakh apartments in the city the water harvesting was effected by only 25000. Over 40 percent of rain water was allowed to drain out, said experts. What went wrong with the residents of the apartments is the question. According to the size of the house, owners should shell out from their pockets Rs 25000 to Rs 8 lakhs. It is a costly affair. Environmentalists said heavy charge imposed on the owners is one of the reasons for set-back to water harvesting. Without cooperation from citizens it is not possible to improve the ground water resources, said officials and experts. Version of people and the officers is not matching. On the whole the remedy is to go for water harvesting to raise the ground water level. For that first awareness among people must go up. That is the genesis of the problem.
