The Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao, has given a call to reinstate the ponds in all ten districts of Telangana on Thursday. While addressing the reporters he was called on by the irrigation experts. Telangana government gives utmost priority to the irrigation sector he reiterated.
Telangana CM said in the united Andhra Pradesh minor irrigation was not considered and said that even a single rupee was allocated for the restoration of the ponds. He further said that, the minor irrigation sector was not prioritized because of vested ill intention.
CM announced that a huge sum of Rs 50,000 cr to 70,000 cr will be spent on the minor irrigation projects in the coming four years of time. He reminded that all the ponds existing in Telangana were dug by the Kakatiya Reddy Rajus. He shed the principle of watershed was prevailing since 11th century A.D. He also reminded of the fact that before Andhra Pradesh was born in 1956, 20L acres of land were cultivated in Telangana. He further added that, 17L acres of land were cultivated under the ponds.
