The municipal election results threw up few surprises. MIM winning a first seat outside Hyderabad in Bhainsa, BSP winning in Nirmal are one kind. The other, politically more surprising is the TDP’s victory in Gajwel and TRS’s bad show in Mahabub Nagar.
Gajwel is part of Medak, quite close to Siddipet – KCR’s hometown and Harish Rao’s fiefdom. Though Gajwel was not announced to be KCR’s assembly seat by the time Municipal polls were held, it was generally known as his choice. Yet TDP had won this municipality, even by a fractional majority of one ward. Remember, TDP had emerged a leading party in only seven municipalities in Telangana, Gajwel is one of them!
The other surprise package for KCR is Mahabub Nagar, the Lok Sabha constituency he had been representing. He had reminded Mahabub Nagar public time and again, that the satisfaction of achieving Telangana came to him while representing Mahabub Nagar. Here too, except Aiza municipality, TRS did not emerge a winner anywhere! In Wanapathy, TDP again trounced TRS, whereas in three other places – Kalwakurthy, Nagarkurnool and NarayanPet, TRS stood on an equal footing compared to Congress. In other places, Mahabub Nagar, Gadwal, Shad Nagar were a clean sweep by Congress. Sway of leaders like Nagam Janadhan Reddy, DK Aruna clearly worked against KCR.
The lack of ground level organizational strength of TRS, a point that has been quoted time and again, has hit KCR where it hurts him the most!
