Workers’ pay hike under study

imagesThe KCR government has made clear that property tax must be increased to raise the salaries of the municipal staff who struck work but most of the employees reported for duty after the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao issued a call to them to call off stir. The ball is now in the court of chief minister as the municipalities expressed their inability to pay higher wages of the striking staff. As of now municipalities pay salaries from their own resources. Municipal managements also informed that they were not in a position to pay even the arrears of power bills from collections. There is no alternative except enhancing the property tax. The chief secretary Rajiv Sharma heading a committee discussed the issue with working committees and officers of municipalities, corporations, panchayats, mayors, chairpersons, commissioners and submitted a report to the chief minister.  Now the issue is under a discussion.
