Sushma Swaraj, the minister of External Affairs, on Saturday said it would soon draft a five-year action plan starting 2016 for enhancing connectivity and cooperation in diverse areas. She was addressing the 12th India-Asean Foreign Ministers Meeting in Myanmar. She said that India wanted to take collaboration with the grouping to “new heights”.
She said that there is a scope for the economic and trade ministers of will be able to sign the Free Trade Agreement on services and investment when they later meet this month. She also opined to agree on the modalities for setting up a committed Asean-India Trade Investment Centre.
She said India expects to see progress with respect to implementation of “guidelines to the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and the adoption of a Code of Conduct on the basis of consensus”.
“We would like to further strengthen our people-to-people programmes with Asean…I suggest extension of the Media Exchange Programme for another three years,” she said at the meeting.
